The wide range of hotels, hostels and rental apartments, within the city and also in neighboring towns and villages, can allow each individual or group the opportunity to find a location which best accommodates their needs. There are luxury hotels which offer high-quality service and attention such as the W Hotel (Starwood) where their motto is ‘whatever, whenever’ to hostels with dormitory style rooms and communal showers. Additionally, for individuals or small groups, renting an apartment may be an attractive option since you frequently get better prices, more commodities and freedom.
The metro system is conveniently situated, allowing for relatively quick travel to most locations in the city, up to about 40 minutes. When choosing accommodation, keep in mind how far it is from a metro station and also that the metro closes at mid-night during the week. Of course, there is always the option of a taxi or we could arrange a private bus if your specific needs require it.
If you are here for business, the hotels outside the city center often offer excellent facilities and they may offer bus transport to the city center for guests to enjoy their time outside of meetings. If you are simply here for a holiday or to enjoy the city to its fullest, we recommend searching for accommodation in El Raval, the Gothic Quarter, El Born or Barceloneta. Each of these neighborhoods offers a wide selection of beautiful historic buildings, delicious restaurants, great shopping and plenty of places to have a good time during the days and late into the nights, and they’re all within walking distance of each other!
Each neighborhood has something special to offer …
Previously, the Raval district had a bad reputation and was known for crime and prostitution. Although prostitution can still be found on some of the streets, the city is cleaning it up and now it is a nice area full of foreign influence and a nice place to find fashionable shops, fun restaurants and good entertainment. However, like everywhere in Barcelona, you must still be careful of pickpockets and bag snatchers.
The Gothic Quarter is one of the most beautiful and authentic areas of Barcelona. Here you can find yourself lost in the narrow medieval streets and be surprised by hidden & lively squares. Also, the area offers numerous restaurants, lively pubs and shops of all sorts. Additionally, it is conveniently located close to Las Ramblas and other major points of interest, and is perfectly situated for exploring the entire city center.
El Born is probably the hippest and most popular area in Barcelona. The small streets are well-preserved and offer a wide selection of unique designer boutiques, gourmet restaurants and trendy bars. If you’re looking for a sophisticated, vibrant and distinctive environment, then this is the neighborhood for you.
La Barceloneta is a charming old fisherman’s village where you can still feel life as it has been for the last 50 years. The area is ideally located if you want to spend your time at the beach, eat delicious Mediterranean seafood and experience the local culture. Nearly the entire neighborhood is surrounded by the beach and just a few minutes walk you can find places such as Port Vell (Old Port) and Port Olympic, which boasts some of the most famous night spots in Barcelona, such as Opium, Shoko and Catwalk.
