In recent years Mediterranean cuisine has been gaining unprecedented international fame, with numerous Catalan chefs being put in the spotlight for the richness and diversity of their culinary traditions. Not to mention that the Mediterranean diet is also considered one of the healthiest in the world!
A great way to learn about this cuisine and to be able to enjoy it, even long after you've left Barcelona, is to participate in this cooking workshop! You can join a small group of up to 14 people, or if you’re a larger group or company, you can reserve a private workshop, or team-building activity, which lets you all work together to create a delicious, authentic meal.
The standard workshop (open session) allows you to create a traditional 4-course meal. The ingredients and preparation are explained for each dish, and then several volunteers are asked to assist, giving everyone the opportunity to cook & prepare one dish.
Two sessions are offered daily, one at 11:00 and another at 17:00. The workshop itself takes about 2.5 hours and is followed by the meal (including water & wine), which lasts approximately 1 hour.
The menu depends on the season and what products are available and freshest. A sample menu may be:

Tortilla & typical pan con tomate
Seafood paella
Crema Catalana
You can enhance this activity and truly experience the intricacies of local food and the culture surrounding it by adding a tour of the famous Boqueria market, the largest and most renowned fresh food market in Europe. The tour is available for groups from 10 people and lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and is offered from Tuesday to Thursday at 9:45, and on Friday at 9:45 and 15:45.

If you’re traveling with a large group, the professionals at the workshop will separate you into smaller groups who will each get a specific recipe they will be preparing themselves to share later. With this method, the entire group gets the opportunity to prepare the food, and the result is several smaller dishes perfect for sharing tapas style.
Each dish can be presented to the entire group by a member of each team, which allows the groups to share their experience, and even add an element of friendly competition.
You can also add a visit to the Boqueria market, which not only provides a unique cultural-gastronomic experience, but also can promote team-building by giving the option for each group to be given an allowance with which to buy the ingredients for the courses they will be preparing.
